Cultivate the Healing Power of Gratitude

Editors note - Article taken from The Chopra Center , who is the premier provider of experiences, education, teacher trainings and products that improve the health and well-being of body, mind and spirit. Gratitude is an immensely powerful force that we can use to expand our happiness, create loving  relationships, and even improve our health. Many scientific studies, including research by renowned psychologists Robert Emmons and Michael McCullough , have found that people who consciously focus on gratitude experience greater emotional well-being and physical health than those who don’t. In comparison with control groups, those who cultivated a grateful outlook: Felt better about their lives as a whole Experienced greater levels of joy and happiness Felt optimistic about the future Got sick less often Exercised more regularly Had more energy, enthusiasm, determination, and focus Made greater progress toward achievin...

Martin H. Bauman - Noteworthy example

In times of uncertainty, having an example to look at, is a great reference point. If someone else can serve as a case-study so to speak, for you to review and make more informed decisions from, then it's a win-win. You see what they've done that works (or doesn't), and you avoid stagnation by using their example to keep moving ahead. Part of Veteran Mettle is to shed light on noteworthy examples of success after service, or people who continued moving forward after their time in the military. Character, selflessness, soul, community, leadership, honesty, humility, honor, altruism, empathy, mettle, determination - success is not measured by money, title, job, or possessions. We are not victims, and our lives do not end with our time in uniform. We possess the unique ability to cope well with difficulties, and to face demanding situations in a spirited and resilient way. These are examples from within our community, but anyone can learn from them.   ...

25 Things About Life I Wish I Had Known 10 Years Ago - by Darius Foroux

Editor's note - I pulled this article from Task & Purpose who got it from Greatist , the original writer is Darius Foroux , not me.   Socrates, considered one of the founders of Western philosophy, was once named the wisest man on earth by the Oracle of Delphi. When Socrates heard that the oracle had made such a comment, he believed that the statement was wrong. Socrates said: “I know one thing: that I know nothing.” How can the smartest man on earth know nothing? I heard this paradoxical wisdom for the first time from my school teacher when I was 14 or 15. It made such an impact on me that I used Socrates’ quote as my learning strategy. To me, “I know nothing” means that you might be a wise person, but still, you know nothing. You can still learn from everything and everyone. One thing that I like better than learning from my mistakes is learning from other people’s mistakes. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to have great mentors, teachers, family, an...
